Chelsea Varsity Soccer Shuts Out Jackson 4-0

Jackson, MI. – The Bulldogs of Chelsea visited Mehall Field to face the host Vikings, and despite much rain lately, the weather held out nicely. It didn’t take long for the Bulldogs to get on the board as Senior captain Kate McKenzie got the ball past Vikings goalkeeper Mya Clay with a little over 10 minutes gone in the first half.

The Bulldogs got lots of pressure on the Vikings, and the ball was mainly in the Vikings’ zone for much of the first half. About 4 minutes after McKenzie’s goal, Avery Cousino was able to get the ball in the back of the net. A few minutes later, Cousino would score again to give the Bulldogs a huge 3-0 lead.

Clay came up big in the Viking goal as the Bulldogs were getting lots of offensive pressure. As the half started to get near the end, the Vikings stepped up their game, and the Bulldogs’ goalkeeper came up big, making several great stops.

In the second half, there was a great balance between both teams as they put pressure on each other and fought very hard. Freshman Jaclyn Guy made her first varsity appearance ever, after being asked to play after her JV game for the Varsity team, and played really well, almost scoring a goal. The Bulldogs would get one more goal by Captain Emma Ruszkiewicz to help secure the victory.

The Bulldogs, 5-3 on the season, will be off until Monday, when they will travel to Ypsilanti for a 5:30 match. Jackson 3-2-1 on the season, will host Pinckney Saturday, the 18th at 11:30 a.m.
