Napoleon Girls Soccer Shuts Out Hanover-Horton 6-0

Naploeon, MI. – On a beautiful, warm day, the Napoleon Pirates played host to the Hanover-Horton Comets. The comets started with the ball first, and both teams did a great job getting opportunities, but both goalkeepers came up big.

The pirates were putting a lot of pressure on Comet’s goalkeeper, Vivian Foote, but she made several great stops. But about 26 minutes into the first half, Marisa Stark scored the first goal of the game. About 30 seconds later, Lily Eagen got one past the right side of Foote for a 2-0 lead. With about 6 minutes to go in the half, Abby Jennings scored in a huge crowd to give the Pirates a big 3-0 lead. Eagen would score again off a corner kick with 32 seconds until the half for a 4-0 lead entering the half.

After the half, the Comets made some great adjustments and put on lots of pressure on the Pirates’ goalkeeper, and both teams exchanged shots. Almost 10 minutes into the half, Eagen scored again, giving the Pirates a big 5-0 lead and her getting the big hat trick.

A few minutes later, the Comets committed a penalty, giving Kate Van Wagnen a penalty kick. Van Wagnen blasted the shot, but Foote came up big and stopped the shot. Van Wagnen was able to get the rebound and get it in the back of the goal for a 6-0 Pirate lead.

Shortly after that, thunder started rolling in, so the game was delayed. The thunder kept coming back for more delays, so eventually the game was called with the Pirates getting their second win of the young season and back-to-back victories and back-to-back shutouts. The Pirates will participate next in the Royal Round Robin Tournament at Jackson Christian on Saturday, the 25th.
