Jackson, MI. – The Chelsea Bulldogs travelled to Jackson Friday night to take on the host Vikings, and it didn’t take the Bulldogs long to show that they meant business. The Bulldogs jumped out to aquick lead, the Vikings, however, hit a few big shots to cut into the lead, but the Bulldogs turned up the heat and took a big lead after the first.
The Bulldogs played a strong defensive game, forcing bad passes and many turnovers, and did a great job out-rebounding the Vikings on the boards. The Vikings couldn’t keep up with the fast-paced Bulldogs at times, which helped the Bulldogs take a big 34-19 lead into the half.
Jackson Coach Richard Anderson made some changes after the half, and the Vikings came out strong, cutting into the Bulldogs’ big lead and holding the Bulldogs to a low point total for the quarter. But the Bulldogs’ defense stepped up huge in the fourth quarter with big plays by Senior Addie Howard and others, and only gave up 5 points as the bench was cleared for the Bulldogs, giving many of the girls a chance to see some action.
The Vikings (6-5) were led in scoring by Jeniya Graham with 18 points, while Kialye Harrell had 10, and Jayla Estelle had 7.
The Bulldogs (5-2) were led in scoring by Sophomore Audrey McCarley, who led all scorers in the game with 21 points. Freshman Milaina “Millie” Adams had 14 points, Freshman Fiona Borcherding had 10, and Howard & Freshman Sloane Steele each had 5.
The bulldogs will travel to Ann Arbor on Tuesday, the 20th, for a 7 P.M. tip-off against Skyline.
