Chelsea, MI.- On an unseasonably warm day, 15 schools converged on the Chelsea track and field to play host to the area 16-2 regionals. The Chelsea girls’ team finished second behind Pinckney, while the boys finished fifth, as New Boston Huron took first overall.
For the boys, Junior Beckett Boos got his personal record (pr) finishing fourth place in the 800 meter run and will be representing his Bulldogs at the state championship games at the end of this month. Junior Henry Fredenberg took fourth place in the 3200 with a new pr of 10:00.14. Chelsea took fourth in the 4 x 100 relay with a team of Gibson Ichesco, Ethan Collins, AJ Smith, and Drew Weinberg. In the 4 x 200, the same team minus Weinberg but with Max Collins anchoring took third overall. In the 4 x 800 Chelsea took third with a team of Boos, Cameron, Miles Dell, and Wyeth Angus achieving a new pr.
In the field events, Indiana Hurst finished 5th in the shot put. Chala Campbell & Joshua Doyle tied for 5th in the pole vault while Ichesco finished third in the long jump.
For the girls running events, Teagan Hill took third in the 100, while freshman Melina King finished fourth in the 200, less than a second away from first place. Junior Addie Howard was one-tenth of a second from finishing first in the 400 and was the first person on the whole Chelsea team to qualify for states this season, a while ago. Junior Ceci Bayer took first place in the 800 with a new pr time of 2:22.65. Senior Natalia Demea finished fifth in the 3200.
In the 100 hurdles, it was India Barney qualifying for states and taking second place. In the 4 x 100 relay, the Bulldogs took first with a team of Barney, Aleeah Wells, King, and Hill. In the 4 x 200, the team of King, Wells, Howard, and Hill took third place. In the 4 x 400, Chelsea took first with a team of Howard, Jikke Kerstens, DeMea, and Bayer, and Chelsea took third in the 4 x 800.
In the girls’ field events, Senior Anna Brant took third in the shot put and qualified for states, and she also took fourth in the discus and will be representing Chelsea in that event. In the Pole vault, Karlie Van Remortel took first place, qualifying for states, while Junior Lissa Krueger finished in third with a pr of 9 feet.
Chelsea will be well represented at the Lower Peninsula Division 2 state championship meet, which will take place May 31st at Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Michigan.
