Jackson, MI. Thirteen track and field teams converged on Al Withington Stadium Wednesday afternoon, representing the junior varsity athletes of their respective schools. The Chelsea Bulldogs were there, representing in a very positive way. Many schools didn’t have enough kids to compete in all 34 events, while many had way more than enough, meaning there were several heats for many of the events.
The Bulldogs of Chelsea did very well on the warm afternoon, even after a slight breeze came in along with a little rain and then a beautiful double rainbow which shone brightly behind the East side of the stadium for the entire meet.
The Chelsea boys competed well in the 4 x 800 relay, setting a personal record (PR) with a team of Preston Vasas, Alex Martin, David Leschuk, and Simeon Strong. Sophomore Tyler Ward set his pr with a distance of 36 feet in the shot put. Sophomore Alex Miller finished third in the pole vault with a vault of 10 feet, while Otto Becker finished with a height of 9 feet.
For the Bulldog girls, Caitlyn Ash ran well in the 200 meters, coming off a big injury, just finishing less than a second off of first place. Freshman Sydney Baldwin competed really hard in the 400, finishing with a time of 1:11.27. Freshman Gabrielle Crowe-Slater was just 3 tenths off a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, setting a new pr with 18.65. In the 4 x 200 relay, it was the team of Sydney Baldwin, Eve Wagner, Caitlyn Ash, and Anna Irwin setting a new pr for them, 2:00.25.
In the field events, it was freshman Kajsa Kajander taking first place by far with a new pr throw of 28′ 10.75″. Freshman Exmily Xiao set a new pr also with a throw of 24′ 5″. Sophomore Savannah Burk took first place in the pole vault with a height of 7 feet.
All the teams there competed very well, and a good time was had by all. And the future for the Bulldogs and other teams looks very bright.
