University Park, PA. – Penn State field hockey junior Mackenzie Allessie (Mount Joy, Pa.) has been named Big Ten Field Hockey’s Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 31, 2021. She received the honor for notching three points in Penn State’s 3-2 overtime win over No. 2 Michigan including the game-winning goal in overtime. Also, she scored a late goal against her former team Ohio State with only 4 seconds to go in the game in a big 4-0 victory.
Allessie also earned first-team All-Big Ten honors for the third straight season and her first as a Nittany Lion. Allessie was a third-team All-American as a freshman and a first-team All-American last year and is now a three-timer on the Big Ten’s first team. She also received the Penn State student-athlete of the week award.
Allessie thrives on and off the field as she has a very competitive spirit. She is majoring in sports psychology. She has 9 goals and 12 assists on the season for a total of 30 points in 19 games.
Allessie started her college career at Ohio State where she had one of the best statistical seasons by a freshman in program history, scoring 16 goals and adding five assists for 37 points in 2019. After leading the team in scoring for two seasons and earning many accolades and awards she transferred to Penn State to be much closer to her family.
She has been greatly accepted and appreciated by her new teammates and coaches and she continues to show off her talents helping her team to a 14-4 regular-season record and a spot in the NCAA tournament.
Allessie was a member of the United States National Team and in 2018 became the youngest player to be named to the team and helped the USA win a bronze medal. Other honors she has achieved are being named a member of the U.S. National Team, a first-team All-American (2020), third-team All-American (2019), first-team All-Big Ten (2019, 2020), first-team NFHCA All-Region (2019, 2020), and Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year (2020).
At Donegal (PA.) High School, she led the nation in goals with 76 in 2016 as a sophomore and was the National high school scoring champion with 91 goals and nation-best 38 assists as a junior in 2017. She is the national career record holder in single-season goals (124), career goals (351), and career points (838) at Donegal. She also was a three-time first-team all-state honoree and three-time Penn Live Player of the Year.
Allessie also is a very positive influence on others and when she can she mentors and coaches her hometown’s local youth field hockey team the Alleycats.
Allessie is the daughter of Andy & Gina Allessie and has a younger brother Brady who plays football.
