Chelsea Michigan’s Jordan Holton is one busy girl. It seems she never has any extra time as she involved in so many activities. Not only does she play a sport in every sports season at her High School, but she also plays in the marching band, competes nationally in Archery,
Ohio Wesleyan, known as the Battling Bishops, is a liberal arts college located in beautiful Delaware, Ohio, about 30 miles from the Ohio state capital of Columbus. It was founded in 1842 by Methodist leaders and Central Ohio residents and is a member of the Ohio Five which is a consortium of Ohio liberal art colleges. One great notable athlete from the diverse University is Branch Rickey, who would go on to sign Jackie Robinson to break baseball’s color barrier. The Battling Bishops compete in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Jordan has been on the Chelsea varsity field hockey playing sweeper for three years and it is by far her favorite sport. She also plays basketball, where she has played a big part in her Bulldogs being undefeated at 20-0 this season, the best in school history. She also competes in the spring on the track and field team where does shot put and discus. Her personal record (pr) for shot put is 32 feet 7 inches, while her pr for discus is 105 feet, 8 inches.
Jordan chose field hockey and loves playing sweeper because “it makes her
feel powerful there and it is a good spot for power to be.”
Jordan looks forward to her new adventure in the next step of her young life and is very excited to make new friends. She is not 100% sure what she wants to study but she knows it will involve medicine. Jordan got her first tattoo this year in honor of her Aunt Char, her mother’s sister. She passed away at the very young age of 40 from the horrific disease of breast cancer. The tattoo has wings and a halo and her year born and when she passed because Jordan says” the wings and halo represent she is an angel before and after her passing.”
When Jordan visited the Ohio Wesleyan campus she knew it was the right place for her. She loved the size, the people, the coaching staff, and she is only 3 hours from home.
“I chose field hockey because it feels natural to me and I love playing it,” Jordan stated. “When I went for a visit I loved the campus and the size. Then when I saw the field hockey team play and then meeting them after the game I felt like they were gonna be great to be around for my next four years at college.”
Jordan is really looking forward to playing on Head Coach Brenda Semit’s Battling Bishops in the fall of 2019. She has already been chatting with another incoming field hockey freshman from Colorado. Last year the team went 10-7 and Jordan hopes to be able to help the team improve on that.
“I’m very excited and I can’t wait,” Jordan happily stated.
