Ann Arbor Green Hills – The Gators of Arbor Prep easily defeated the Plymouth Christian Academy 55-33 in the District 87 semifinals to advance to the District Finals. The Gators came out strong playing solid defense and dominated on the boards and took an early lead that they would never relinquish. As a matter of fact the Eagles did not score a basket until almost six minutes were played in the first period.
The Gators held the Eagles to only one basket in the second quarter as they took a huge 26-6 halftime lead. With a running clock, the Eagles were able to hit a few 3-point shots in the fourth quarter to make the score closer.
The Gators played great controlling the ball and forcing a lot of bad shots that they took advantage of with their aggressive rebounding. As the game went on Gators Head Coach Scott Stine substituted a lot of his starters to give his bench, including his 5 freshmen, a lot of playing time and experience in their first-ever playoff game.
Soleil Weaver led the Eagles with 11 points who finished their season at 16-7. The Gators were led in scoring by Junior Autumn Pernell and senior Stacy Utomi with 12 points each in limited play. Stacy’s twin sister Stephanie had 11 points, Sophomore Angela Meggisson had 10.
The Gators (19-4) will take on the Grass Lake Warriors (19-4) Friday night at Ann Arbor Green Hills at 7 P.M. The Warriors advanced by defeating the Manchester Dutch.
