Ypsilanti, MI. – Despite being shorthanded and only able to dress 6 players the Ypsilanti Arbor Prep Gators girl’s basketball team cruised to a huge victory over the Plymouth Christian Eagles. The Gators started out strong and played great defense in the first quarter not allowing the Eagle’s first points of the game until with 30 seconds left in the quarter. The Gators took a huge 17-2 advantage into the second quarter.
The second quarter was much of the same although the Eagles took advantage of a few opportunities and got a few more points on the board trailing 35-12 at the half. In the third, the Eagles made a few adjustments and were able to narrow the score a bit but the Gators took advantage of fouls and many turnovers in the fourth to pull out the huge victory.
The Gators were led by Kayla Covington with 22 points, Stacy Utomi with 14 points, and her twin sister Stephanie Utomi finished with 12 points.
The Eagles were led Morganne Hour and Madison Yeager with 10 points apiece.
The Gators now stand at 8-4 on the season and play quite possibly one of the toughest schedules in girls’ basketball in the state of Michigan. The Eagles fall to 9-6 on the season. The Gators hit the road Friday night to travel to South Lyon East for a 6 o’clock tip-off.
