Williamston, MI. – The Williamston Hornets bounced back against their tough loss to Lansing Eastern to get the season sweep in a 57-52 victory against their rivals Haslett. Both teams started out strong exchanging baskets but it was the Hornets that would take a 7 point lead into the half with the help of a solid defense and 10 points from Sophomore guard Jacob Wallace.
After the half, Haslett made some great adjustments and would close within 5 behind a big pair of three-point shots from Senior Viking Jack Dillon. But in the fourth, it was all Hornets as they forced big turnovers and held the Hornets to only 10 points keeping the Hornets in a first-place tie in the Capital Area Athletics Conference Red Division (CAAC) and giving them their 16th win on the season against only 2 losses.
Haslett’s Brennan Boetcher led all scorers in the game with 20, while his teammates Xander Thelen put up 12, And Dillon finished with 10.
The Hornets were led by Wallace who finished the night with 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assist. Brandon Hunt finished with 11 points and 9 rebounds, Mason Docks had 12 points, and senior guard Mitchell Cook finished with 3 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assist.
Senior Hornets Mitchell Cook, Jacob Jones, and Sam Schikorra were honored along with their families before the game.
The Hornets tip-off next in Mason on the 28th at 7 p.m. and are looking to clinch the CAAC conference once again
