Penn State Field Hockey’s Phia Gladieux Leads Division 1 In Goals

Penn State University has a great reputation for developing outstanding athletes and individuals, especially when it comes to their field hockey team. Celebrating its 60th year of its inception the team once again is off to a great start. And one of the reasons for that is senior forward Phia Gladieux.

Gladieux is leading NCAA Division One with 10 goals and has 22 points on the season, tied with 2 other players, in only 6 games. She is averaging 3.67 points per game and is averaging 1.67 goals per game. She has one hat trick (three goals scored in one game) this season on the road in a big comeback victory against a very tough Delaware team.

Gladieux is tiny in stature but large and powerful when it comes to her bullseye shots as she has one of the hardest shots in the game and is known for her outstanding backhand shots. She is a complete player and knows where to be and gives much credit to her coaches and teammates for her great success.

That is just one of the reasons why she was chosen to represent the United States in Paris in 2024 on the U.S. Olympic field hockey team where she scored the team’s first goal in the competition.

The Nittany Lions are known for playing against some of the toughest competition in the country and always have a very competitive schedule. They stand at 3-3 on the season, with their losses coming against all top-caliber highly ranked teams.

Gladieux has 34 shots this season and has a .294 shot percentage and has 21 shots on goal with a .618 shots on goal percentage. She has an overall total of 84 goals and 12 assists for 180 points in her Penn State career.

Gladieux is an Education major and is the daughter of Bunky and Lynn Gladieux.
