Many colleges find it easy to pick up recruits in their own backyard, or even in their own state but the coaches of the Ohio State Women’s Basketball team will go near or far to bring in the best talent and fit for their esteemed program. And that’s exactly what they did when they went about 4,800 miles to ink their newest recruit Dorka Juhasz from Pecs, Hungary.
Dorka stands at 6 feet 4 inches tall and has been playing on the hardcourt in basketball for 11 years. She comes from a tall family so it’s been in her genes since day one. Her mother, Hajnalka, is considered one of the best basketball players in Hungary’s history. She was a Euro Cup winner and was the driving force behind Dorka’s basketball development. Dorka is currently playing on a EuroCup team in her hometown. She is rated as the No. 12 international player in the 2018 class and No. 5 forward, according to Prospects Nation. She has played on a number of Hungarian national teams since 2015 and averaged 11.7 points and 9.4 rebounds over seven games at the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup this past summer
“I have always known I would like to be a basketball player,” the Buckeye commit stated. “That goal has always been before my eyes.”
Dorka obviously had lots of offers from all over the world but she felt in her heart that Ohio State was really above and beyond, and was something very special. In January her family and herself visited the campus in Columbus and that was more than enough to seal the deal. In her first visit to the United States ever the people of Columbus made her feel right at home.
“I loved it,” Dorka exclaimed! ” We really enjoyed the visit. It is a very special place. The city, the campus, the girls, the coaches, and the whole staff. It’s just amazing.”
Dorka was hooked on the Buckeyes as she watched the entire season of their games only.
“I really liked the style of their game, I can imagine myself in it,” Dorka said.
Dorka mainly plays a forward and loves to play on the outside shooting 3-point shots. With her height, she can use it as an advantage if she has a shorter defender, she can post up. But she feels more comfortable playing on the outside.
“It’s going to be hard because I will be so far from my home but I am sure the people around me will take care of me and will be my second family,” she happily stated.
