Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State Women’s Lacrosse team had a big 2nd half as they overpowered Robert Morris en route to a 7-3 win. Under grey skies befitting of the scarlet and grey, Baley Parrot led her team with the hat trick to bring the Buckeyes to .500 on the season as they prepare for Big Ten Conference play.
The game remained scoreless as both teams played a solid defense forcing many turnovers until the 13:13 mark when the Colonials Junior Shannon Lynch tossed the ball into the back of the net off a feed from Clio Kerr to give the Colonials a 1-0 lead. But it didn’t take long for the home team to even the score as McKayla Conti scored on a free position shot. With the game tied at 1-1, Parrott scored her first goal of the game on a free position opportunity to give OSU a 2-1 lead that held as the game went to halftime.
Less than 2 minutes into the second half under the ever-present drizzle Conti scored her second goal of the game to extend the Buckeye lead to 3-1. Everything was coming up Buckeyes in the second as Junior Sara Dickinson found the back of the net to push the lead to three, 4-1. Parrott, not content with a three-goal lead, converted another free position opportunity to make it 5-1 OSU with 22:08 to play. Kerri Sayrafe ended the Ohio State run with a goal at the 15:28 mark of the period, but the Colonials Erika Keselman responded with a goal of her own to push the lead back to four, 6-2, with 13:26 left in the game. Sayrafe scored again with a little under six minutes to play, but Parrott’s third goal of the afternoon iced the game and locked up the 7-3 win for the Buckeyes.
Both goalkeepers played exceptionally well staving off a bevy of shots throughout the game. It was the lowest goals against the Buckeyes goalkeeper Jillian Rizzo, the young sophomore from Queensbury, New York has given up in a game this season while making 13 saves. Parrott’s three goals led the game, both in points and in goals. The junior now has a team-high 28 goals on the year and leads the team in points with 31. Molly Wood, the New York Senior, added two more draw controls to her all-time program best total, now sitting at 239.
The Buckeyes now shift their sights back to Big Ten action as the Penn State Nittany Lions come to town this weekend. Saturday’s game is a doubleheader with the men’s lacrosse team, and it is senior day for the women.
