COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State’s spirit and dance teams walked away with a national championship and top honors after competing in the UCA College Nationals in Florida.
On their annual trip to Orlando, Florida for the national championships, the spirit team was crowned Division 1 national champions on Friday. The team was comprised of cheer and dance team members and Brutus.
Two days later, the dance team took home top honors in Division 1 jazz. The team was also runner-up in Division 1 pom.
In five of the last six years, the Buckeyes have won at least one championship at nationals, culminating in 2022 when they won three:
- 2018: First place in jazz and pom
- 2019: First place in pom
- 2020: First place in jazz
- 2021: First place in jazz and pom
- 2022: First place in jazz, pom and gameday
- 2024: First place jazz
The Buckeyes finished with a score of 98.9206, topping second-place Minnesota at 98.4286. Both teams finished first and second in the semifinals as well.
In the finals for pom, Minnesota had the upper hand and topped Ohio State’s 97.7143 score.
The team earned the Spirit national title after scoring 98.45 Friday evening. The winning score was nearly four points better than runner-up Mississippi (94.733).
In other results over the weekend, Ohio State finished second in the co-ed partner stunt, just narrowly behind first-place Weber State. The Buckeyes also finished seventh in the D1A mascot competition with a score of 84.92.
