Napoleon, MI. – After a big junior varsity Pirates victory it was the Napoleon varsity team’s turn to take on a very tough Hanover-Horton Comets team Monday night. Try as they might though the Pirates came up short in a 33-26 loss.
The Comets used their quick passing ability and good ball movement to take a 5-point lead going into the second quarter and kept using that ability to go into the locker room at halftime up by 10.
In the second half, the pirates came out strong and fast and were able to cut the lead and only hold the Comets scoring to 5 points in the whole quarter. In the fourth, they kept it close and pulled with two baskets after senior Maggie Beer hit a huge 3-point shot with less than a minute to go. However, the old foul and hope for a missed shot strategy had to come into play so late in the game and the Comets were able to sink their free throws and maintain the lead for the victory.
The Pirates were led in scoring by Maggie Beer with 14 points,
The Comets were led in scoring by Tracy Ackley with 9 points, Maggie Soper with 9 also, Alyson Stroede, and Mollie Easter with 4 points each.
Napoleon (1-3) will be taking on Onsted on Thursday night. Hanover ( 4-1) will be off until after the first of the New Year.
