Jackson Christian High School is a small school nestled in southwest Jackson but for such a small school it has produced its great share of athletes. And Cassie McNeil is one of those as the senior on the girl’s basketball has played her way into the Royals all-time record books.
Playing against Jackson Preparatory School, McNeil broke an age-old record by sinking 8 3-point baskets in a game. The old record of 7 was held by Gabby Spangler and Patty Nuff. She also continued with her skillful shooting to put up 41 points on the night breaking the old school record high of 38 points in a game.
“I didn’t know I was going to break those records,” said McNeil. “But I had 3 3’s in the second quarter, and thought I had a good shot at it since I was shooting very well.”
McNeil, who is averaging 16 points per game this season, has been playing basketball since she has been in elementary school and loves to watch basketball. Her two favorite teams being the Michigan State University men’s team and the NBA’s Golden State Warriors. She attributes her great basketball skills to her older sister Megan and older brother Mitchell, who both excelled on the court during their days at Jackson Christian.
“They have helped me throughout my whole High School career and always are there for me when I need it,” said McNeil.
McNeil keeps busy when she’s off the court by showing horses, cattle, and sheep. She has been showing horses ever since she could walk and is very talented at what she does, winning major awards whenever she competes. She also is starting to train her own horses to sell and is planning on starting her own training business.
She is unsure what she has planned after High School but her mission right now is to help her young team finish the season on a strong note and go far into the playoffs. But she’s not done yet.
“I’m so thrilled to have name in the record books, I’m going to try to break the steals or assist records too before my career is over,” said a determined McNeil
Cassi is the daughter of Tony and Laura McNeil.
