Jackson, MI.- The Jackson Christian Royals girl’s basketball team hosted a highly talented Calhoun Christian team and although they fought valiantly until the end, they came up short on a 52-33 loss.
Both teams started out very strong swapping baskets and playing solid defense but the Royals could only manage 1 point in the second quarter as the Cougars took a 24-9 lead into the half. In the third, it was all Cougars as the Royals went almost 16 minutes between periods without scoring a basket. In the fourth, though Royals senior guard Bree Sanford caught fire draining long-range 3’s to bring her team within striking distance but it was too little too late.
Sanford led the Royals with 20 points and 5 rebounds while junior Paiton Hollowood had 7 points and 13 rebounds.
The Cougars were led by sophomore Elie Wilson with 14 points, while her teammates Megan Follet had 12, Maya Wilson had 11, and Ali Gummer had 9. All Follet’s points came off 3 point shots.
The Cougars advance to 5-3 on the season. The Royals have 4 wins against 2 losses this season thus far.
