Indiana Softball Dominates Stony Brook

MIAMI, Fla. ––– Indiana Softball delivered a demonstrative bounce-back performance against Stony Brook on Friday afternoon, winning 10-0, in five innings.

The Hoosiers tallied at least one run in every inning of play except the third to take the game and improve the team’s record to 1-1 overall.

KEY MOMENTS

• Indiana opened the scoring with Taylor Minnick’s sacrifice fly to bring home Melina Wilkison in the top of the first inning to put Indiana up 1-0.

• By way of Wilkison’s double and RBIs from Minnick and Sydni Burko, Indiana added four more runs in the second inning to go up 5-0 in the top of the second.

• Indiana’s Taylor Hess was sharp in the circle in her Hoosier debut and showed it through four frames. She only needed four batters to get out of the third inning.

• Minnick’s line drive up the middle in the top of the fourth inning extended Indiana’s lead to 7-0, bringing Alex Cooper and Madalyn Strader home.

• The Hoosiers tacked on three more runs in the top of the fifth inning to make it a 10-0 game and put them in position for a win-by-run rule.

• Indiana didn’t allow a run in the bottom of the fifth to protect the run rule despite Stony Brook threatening with two runners on. Freshman Jasmine Reyes threw two strikeouts to secure the win.

NOTABLES

• In Taylor Hess’ first appearance as a Hoosier, she picked up the win with four innings of scoreless work and only five hits allowed. She compiled three strikeouts.

• Redshirt junior Melina Wilkison recorded a double in back-to-back days and had two RBI today.

• Senior Taylor Minnick had four RBI on a 1-2 hitting performance.

• Pinch hitting in her first collegiate at-bat, freshman Sydni Burko delivered an RBI

• Reyes made her first collegiate appearance in the fifth inning, closing out the game and striking out two
