Indiana (43-17) The Indiana Hoosiers softball team fell, 9-1, in five innings against No. 4 Tennessee in game two of the NCAA Knoxville Regional at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. With steady rain falling throughout the game, it was rain delayed twice, the first time for about 5 hours.
Freshman second baseman got the Hoosiers on the board quickly as she launched a deep shot over the centerfield fence in the first inning to give the Hoosiers a 1-0 lead. The Big Ten Freshman of the Year tied the Big Ten Freshman home run record with 23 and is one homer away from tying the all-time Big Ten Home Run record.
The 4th ranked Vols came back and scored 3 runs to take a big 3-1 lead at the bottom of the inning, two runs came off a Kiki Milloy home run.
The Lady Vols tacked on two more in the bottom of the second on another Kiki Milloy 2-run home run. The Hoosiers would load the bases in the top of the third, but rain would send the game into a five-hour delay. Resuming at 7:14 p.m. ET, Tennessee would end the inning on a strikeout.
A short rain delay ensued in the bottom of the fourth as the Hoosiers went three up, three down in their half of the frame. Tennessee tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the fourth and retired the side in the top of the fifth to issue the run rule.
Tennessee will take on the winner of today’s Indian/Louisville rematch in the double-elimination tournament. The first pitch for the Hoosiers is at 2:05.
