UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Five members of head coach Char Morett-Curtiss’ Penn State field hockey team have been honored with the announcement of the 2021 National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Region teams. Three Nittany Lions have been honored with first-team honors and two were named to the second team.
Sophomore Sophia Gladieux (Boyertown, Pa.) earned first-team NFHCA All-Region honors for the second straight season. Gladieux ended the season with a team-best 38 points off 18 goals and two assists. The Nittany Lion earned first-team All-Big Ten honors this season and was named to the 2021 Big Ten All-Tournament Team. Gladieux was a second-team NFHCA All-American last year as well.
Junior Mackenzie Allessie (Mount Joy, Pa.) was named to the NFHCA All-Region first team for the third straight season. Allessie, in her first year at Penn State, ended the season with 30 points off nine goals and a team-high 12 assists. She was also a first-team All-Big Ten pick for the third straight time. Allessie was a first-team All-American last year and a third-team selection as a freshman.
Junior Anna Simon (Hanau, Germany) has been named to the NFHCA All-Region first team as well. Simon ended the season with 33 points off 14 goals and five assists. She was named to the 2021 Big Ten All-Tournament team earlier this month. Simon was a second-team All-Big Ten pick in 2019 as well. This is her first All-Region honor.
Junior back Elena Vos (Grave, The Netherlands) has been named to the NFHCA All-Region second team. Vos ended the season with nine points from her nine assists this year. She was a second-team All-Big Ten selection as well. Vos was a second-team All-Region selection last year.
Junior Brie Barraco (Allentown, Pa.) has been named to the NFHCA All-Region second team. Barraco played nearly every minute in goal for Penn State this season and ended the campaign with 90 saves. She had a 2.35 goals-against average and a .738 save percentage with three shutouts. This is Barraco’s first All-Region honor.
The Nittany Lions ended the season with a 14-6 overall record, placed second in the Big Ten regular season with a 6-2 mark, advanced to the 2021Big Ten Tournament semifinals, and earned a spot in the 2021 NCAA Championship Tournament.
