Chelsea Freshman Football Defeats Marshall 15-8

Chelsea, MI. – On Thursday afternoon, the Chelsea Bulldogs hosted the Marshall Redhawks and sought their first victory of the young season. Both teams started slow, not generating much offense, but with 5 seconds left in the first quarter, Bulldog Matheus Adam-Rita had a big run on the right side and was able to get the score, giving the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead.

The score would stay that way until, with just a little over 2 minutes left in the third quarter, Marshall’s Weston Harrison picked off a Bulldog pass and returned it about 60 yards for the pick-six score. Jordan Hill caught the short pass for the 2-point conversion, and Marshall had an 8-7 lead heading into the final stanza.

With about 6 and a half minutes left to go, Chelsea’s Jake Weinberg made an interception and returned it almost 70 yards for the Bulldog score and lead. Chelsea went for the 2-point conversion, and it was Easton Fahlstrom getting it in for a 15-8 Bulldog lead.

The Bulldog defense needed a big stop on the Redhawks, and the defense came up big when it needed to most. With Marshall driving towards a score, it was Camron Fulton jumping clean in front of the Redhawks receiver to give the Bulldogs back the ball and secure the victory.

The Bulldogs played a great game and had great offensive output from many of its players, including Fahlstrom, who made several great tackles, along with defensive players Bentley Parod, Noah Lesser, Stevie Dosh, and more. On the offensive side of the ball, Weinberg and Cameron Cybart did a great job running and blocking out of the backfield.

The Bulldogs return to action Thursday at 4:30 as they hit the road and travel to Adrian. The 2-0 Junior Varsity team, which defeated Jackson Thursday 52-6, will play right after at 6:30.
