Jackson, Michigan—On a sunny yet windy Thursday afternoon, the Vikings of Jackson High School hosted the local district meet at Withington Stadium. Several teams competed throughout the day, but the Chelsea Bulldogs boys’ team finished in the boys division, while the Chelsea girls finished a strong second.
In 17 events on the day, the Chelsea boys took first place with 122 points, the home Vikings finished a close second with 108 points, and third-place Pinckney finished with 92 points.
For the girls, Pinckney took first place with 184 points, Chelsea took second with 156 points, and Adrian finished a very distant third place with 62 points.
The Chelsea boys finished strong on the day placing in almost every event. They took second in the 800 m run with Beckett Boos finishing with a 2:02.11 time. Henry Fredenberg finished with a great time of 10:18.16 in the 3200, which is a very tough race, the longest in the competition. In the relays, Chelsea took 2nd in the 4×100, 4×400, 4×800, and 3rd in the 4×200.
In the field events, Indiana Hurst got his personal record (pr) with a huge throw of 46 feet 7 inches, just 2 inches off from the first-place finisher, Bryan McCutcheon from Tecumseh. In the long jump, sophomore Bulldog Gibson Ichesco got his pr with a huge jump of 21 3 inches. And in the pole vault, Chelsea dominated, taking 5 of the top 6 places, including the top 4. Eli Bennett finished first with a vault of 11 feet 3 inches, along with fellow Bulldogs Joshua Doyle and Chala Campbell, and Bryce Woody took 2nd in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet 8 inches.
For the Bulldog girls in the 100, Teagan Hill took second place with a time of 13.25 while freshman sensation Melina King finished only 1/10th of a second behind her. In the 400 Junior Addie Howard finished in second with a time of 58.97. In the 800, Ceci Bayer finished second with a time of 2:26.95 while teammate Jikke Kerstens finished 2 seconds behind her in third place. In the hurdle events, Junior competitor India Barney took first in the 100 and finished a close second in the 300.
In the relays, Chelsea did outstandingly, finishing first in the 4×100 and the 4×400, and finishing second in the 4×200 and 4×800. In the field events, Kennedy Anderson took second with a 5-foot jump while Karlie Van Remortel took a close second with a vault of 9 feet 9 inches. In the shot put and discus throw, it was Senior star Anna Brant dominating with a 36 feet 4.5 inch throw in the shot and a 105 feet 2 inch throw in the discus, to which no one competing with her was even close.
The Bulldogs will be hosting Regionals in Region 16- 2 next Thursday in Chelsea, starting at 9:30 a.m.
