Whitmore Lake, MI. – The Gators of Arbor Prep easily took down the Canton Prep Chargers on Wednesday night in Whitmore Lake in their first round of the Michigan basketball district tournament. The Gators jumped out to a large early lead and never looked back cruising to a huge 68-35 victory.
The Gators substituted their bench players early on in the second quarter and played a swarming relentless defense forcing many turnovers and were able to take advantage. At the half, they had a 20 point lead and were just dominating against a very good Chargers team.
After the third period, the Gators had practically doubled the Chargers score and kept the game classy in the final stanza as they played mainly their bench players and just passed the ball around so as not to run up the score.
The Gators were led by Senior Troy Ciccote who finished with 24 points, hitting three 3-point shots and going 5 for 5 from the free-throw line. Also for the Gators, Patrick Kombo had 16 points, Omari Byrd had 7, and Xzavier Parker-Brooks finished with 6. The Chargers were led by Preston Zayti with 10 points.
Arbor Prep will tip-off Friday night at 7 P.M. in the District Championship against Ann Arbor Green-Hills who defeated host Whitmore Lake 55-35.
