Ypsilanti, MI. – The Arbor Prep Gators hosted the Standish-Sterling Panthers late afternoon Wednesday in a game that featured two of the top players in the state of Michigan. The game featured Gators Junior Mya Petticord who holds over 20 Division 1 college offers while Panther’s sophomore sensation Macey Fegan holds several of her own and will be the first Panthers player to play Division 1 at the next level since 2001. Both players and their teams came to play and did not disappoint.
The Gators started quickly and didn’t let up, building a quick lead off a couple of long-range threes, but the Panthers didn’t let up and stayed competitive in a very fast-paced first half with the Gators taking a 43-29 lead into the locker room with them.
The Panthers went on a run after the half, closing to within 10 but the Gators high octane attack was just too much for them but they continued to compete until the very end.
Petticord and Fegan didn’t disappoint as both put up good numbers for their teams. Fegan led all scorers with 23 points, on a spectacular 77% shooting percentage. She also had 6 assists, a steal, and one great blocked shot.
Petticord finished with 16 points, 3 assists, and 5 steals. The Gators were led in scoring by young freshman Taylor Wallace who dropped in 20 points including 6 buckets from 3 point range. Stephanie Utomi scored 12 points while Kari Woods had 10, and Jazmin Chupp finished with 9.
The Gators (9-1 on the season) will be home Saturday as they host the Pinckney Pirates on Senior night. Standish-Sterling (8-3 on the season) will head to Tawas for a Friday night game.
