State College, PA. – The Penn State University field hockey team announced their captains for the 2024 season. Phia Gladieux, Julia Lamb, and Drew Taylor are the three seniors to receive the distinguished honor.
Gladieux, a forward from Boyertown, Pennsylvania, is just coming back from representing the United States Field Hockey team in Paris at the 2024 Olympics where she scored a goal against Spain in a 1-1 tie. She has been with the team since 2020 and has been very successful on the team scoring 74 goals with 10 assists for a total of 158 points. She is a complete player and has one of the best and hardest backhand shots in the game. She is the daughter of Bunky and Lynn Gladieux.
“Being named captain is a great honor reflecting trust in my leadership and abilities,” Gladieux stated. “I am very honored that I am seen as a guide and inspiration. It’s a role that recognizes our dedication and commitment to achieving shared goals as a team.”
Lamb, a forward/midfielder, from Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, has also been with the team since 2020 but she redshirted her freshman year. While limited play in her first couple seasons she came on strong in 2023 starting 17 games and notched her first career assist. She is a fast player and has great abilities on the field. She is the daughter of Jeanette and Jim Lamb.
“It’s such an honor to hold such a role on a team like this,” Lamb said. “I value my relationships with the team and I am so happy to have a great group of girls that trust us to help lead us toward success. I hope we can progress and grow together as a team this season and make all our hard work pay off. These girls have worked so hard and helped me grow as a leader so I do think they deserve to have success this year and I am honored and excited to be a part of it!”
Taylor comes to the Nittany Lions from Coatesville Pennsylvania and is a forward/midfielder. She redshirted her freshman season and has excelled in the last few years and started in 17 games in the 2023 season notching her first collegiate goal against Stanford. Taylor has a lot of speed and gets to the ball as needed. She is the daughter of Doreen and George Taylor.
The Nittany Lions open up their season Friday, August 3oth at home versus Virginia at 4 P.M. They will host Syracuse Sunday at 1 P.M. and then hit the road for three games.
