MACON, Ga. – Head coach Susie Gardner and the Mercer women’s basketball program have signed two more student-athletes to its 2024 recruiting class in Stephanie and Stacy Utomi.
Stephanie and Stacy Utomi are twins who play their high school basketball outside of Detroit, Michigan at Arbor Prep. Stephanie and Stacy have experienced great team and individual success throughout their high school careers as they head into their senior seasons this year.
Coach Gardner on the Utomi twins:
“I am thrilled to announce that the Utomi twins will be Mercer Bears next year. Stephanie and Stacy are outstanding students as well as amazing basketball players. When we were looking for players in the 2024 class, we targeted those players who love the game of basketball, are passionate about academics and learning, and have a maturity about them as young women. The twins check all those boxes.”
“They are also accustomed to winning as they won the state championship 2022. I look forward to seeing how Stephanie and Stacy integrate into the Mercer community. I know their professors will be as excited to have them in class as I am to coach them on the court.”
STEPHANIE UTOMI

Stephanie Utomi is a wing player who plays high school basketball with her twin sister Stacy at Arbor Prep in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Utomi plays for Michigan Storm Elite on the GUAA Circuit.
Utomi’s high school and club teams have had great success. Utomi has won the District championship in all three of her seasons so far at Arbor Prep. In her sophomore season in 2021-22, Utomi helped lead Arbor Prep to a Michigan Division 3 State Championship.
Her Michigan Storm team finished as the 2021 GUAA Finals Runner-up. In 2023 they finished as semifinalists at the GUAA National Finals.
Last season as a junior at Arbor Prep, Utomi averaged 11.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 3.3 steals per game. She shot 53.5 percent from the floor.
Utomi was named First Team All-State Division 3 in 2023 by the Associated Press and Detroit News. In her sophomore season in 2021-22, Utomi was named First Team All-State Division 3 by the Associated Press and Third Team All-State Division 3 by the Detroit News. Utomi was also named Academic All-State in 2023 by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM).
Stephanie is planning on majoring in biomedical engineering at Mercer.

Stacy Utomi has also had a great high school career at Arbor Prep, achieving her accolades.
Last season, Utomi was named Third Team All-State Division 3 by the Detroit News. In her sophomore season, in 2021-22 she was named Third Team All-State Division 3 by the Detroit News and Honorable Mention All-State Division 3 by the Associated Press. She was named First Team All-State in 2023 by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM).
While winning three District championships at Arbor Prep, her Michigan Storm team finished as the 2021 GUAA Finals Runner-up. In 2023 they finished as semifinalists at the GUAA National Finals.
