Indiana Hoosier Freshman Taryn Kern hit a three-run homer in the top of the fifth inning against the Minnesota Golden Gophers to break the single-season Hoosier home run record and help lead her 18th-ranked Indiana Hoosiers to victory.
Kern broke the record held by the IU Hall of Fame and Olympian Michelle Venturella in 1994. Kern also leads the Big Ten in home runs with 17 and the Conference with 47 RBIs. She also leads the NCAA in home runs.
Kern, the freshman infielder from San Jose, California, has had an outstanding season helping her Hoosiers to a record-setting 24-game win streak and leads the team with a .422 batting average in over 100 at-bats. She also does an incredible job fielding.
Indiana has a 31-15 record overall and is in third place in the Big Ten Conference with a 9-5 record.
