Clinton, MI. – The Ypsilanti Arbor Prep Gators tipped off in the second game of the night against the Clinton Red Wolves Wednesday evening and it didn’t take them long to show who was the more dominant team as they jumped to a big lead early on and never looked back.
Although shorthanded due to injuries and transfers ineligible to play the Gators scored fast and scored early jumping to a huge 24-3 lead after the first quarter of play. Eliza Bush had a 3-pointer and Taylor Wallace had two in the first quarter.
It was all Gators in the second as well as the defense forced turnovers and outrebounded the Red Wolves and keep them scoreless the first 6 minutes of the second period. Wallace nailed two more deep three-point shots and the Gators had a very comfortable 40-9 lead at the half.
With a running clock, the Gators played conservatively and took a 54-9 lead into the final stanza. With just two minutes left in the game, Clinton was finally able to get into double digits but the Gators cruised to an easy 64-11 victory.
The Gators were led by Wallace who scored 22 points with 5 three-point shots made. Stephanie Utomi finished with 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals while her twin sister Stacy Utomi had 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals. Bush had 11 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals and Angela Meggisson had 5 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals.
The Red Wolves were led by Kayle Livingston with 5 points and they finish their season 17-7.
The Gators will play Plymouth Christian in the District Championship in Clinton Friday at 7 P.M. weather permitting. The Gators, 16- 6 on the season so far, defeated the Eagles of Plymouth Christian in January 67-32.
