Third Ranked Penn State Field Hockey Heads To Columbus Big Ten Tournament As Top Seed

The third-ranked Penn State field hockey team will be the No. 1 seed for the 2022 Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament in Columbus, Ohio, hosted by Ohio State University. The games kick off November 3rd at 11 a.m as number 5 Iowa will take on number 4 Michigan. Penn State receives the first-round bye and will play the winner of that contest Friday at 1:30 p.m.

Penn State earned the top seed of the tournament with its big 3-2 win at Rutgers on Oct. 28 giving the Nittany Lions a 7-1 regular season conference record, a share of its eighth Big Ten Championship. The Nittany Lions shared the conference crown with Maryland but Penn State’s 5-1 win over the Terrapins on Oct. 21 gave Penn State the No. 1-seed.

Penn State’s semifinal game is the first on Friday and the other starts at 4 p.m.  The Big Ten Tournament title game, which will determine the Big Ten’s automatic qualifier for the NCAA tournament, will take place on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 12 p.m. and airs nationally on the Big Ten Network as well.

The Nittany Lions entered this week ranked No. 3 nationally by the NFHCA and ended the regular season with a 15-2 overall record and a 7-1 mark in Big Ten games. The NCAA tournament field will be announced on Sunday night, Nov. 6, at 10 p.m. in a live stream at NCAA.com. The NCAA tournament begins on campus sites to be determined the following weekend, Nov. 11-13. The national semifinals and finals will take place in Storrs, Conn., on Nov. 18-20.
